It was the time when they spent an entire night on the deserted roads of London after leaving Jonathan Gibb’s party. Adrian didn’t sleep that night, all he could think was about what ifs. He didn’t even want to think about what could’ve happened if he hadn’t found her. His raging sea of anger wanted to see the destruction of the man named Jonathan Gibbs. He wanted to see the man’s downfall with his own eyes and he wanted to be the reason behind it. He was never a kind of person who would find happiness in someone else’s downfall but Jonathan had tried to touch the girl. Adrian’s feelings for Amelia were unsettled at that time, but still he didn’t like to see her dance with another man other than him and to see a man touch her in a very inappropriate way, his anger boiled up. If Amelia didn’t call his name, he would’ve punched the man until he fell inconcious.
After Amelia left the room she was given, Adrian left to his room to sleep, but it never came. He picked his phone that laid on his bed to call one of his staff members, he wanted to cancel his contract with the man and he wanted to make sure that Jonathan wouldn’t wouldn’t get any other contracts. Before he could call the person, Adrian received a call from his assistant, Cain. To say that he was shocked was not the appropriate word he would like to use, he was beyond shocked when he came to know that Jonathan’s company went into bankruptcy in a single night.
He asked his assistant to find the details about it and the man on the other side of phone replied that it could be Roman Earnshaw’s doing. Adrian was not surprised when he came to know that it was Roman. The old man was way too cunning and if a person stood against him, he wouldn’t have a second thought to destroy the person’s career but what made Adrian question himself was that why would Roman go to such an extent when Roman had nothing to do with Jonathan.
The sky turned bright and Adrian had not slept even though he was tired. He wanted to check on Amelia but he knew she would be sleeping and he didn’t want to disturb her. Taking a quick shower, he went down and picked the newspaper to read that was brought by one of his servants. Fires of fury smouldred in his eyes when he found his picture on the paper, the article was about him and Amelia. Everything that was written on the paper was rubbish, he threw the newspaper on the dining table and called one of his PR team. For the second time, he was surprised to see that the company who was responsible for writing about him had agreed to apologise him after admitting their mistake even before his team had reacted and the person behind it was Roman Earnshaw again.
Just when he was thinking about Roman, he saw Amelia go into her kitchen. His eyes narrowed when he saw her ignore him. Wasn’t she supposed to greet him or thank him? It was not that he was expecting her to thank him but at least in that way he would be able to speak to her.
Unable to hold himself from talking to her, he decided to speak. He headed to the kitchen where his eyes took into her hair, cascading down to her shoulder. The girl was too busy with whatever she was doing that she missed to notice his presence.
“Do you want to tell me anything?” He didn’t mean to startle her. He wanted to ask her if she wanted to share anything with him, especially about the bruises that was on the back of her shoulder, he wanted to take her to the doctor if it was necessary. Adrian wanted to make sure if she was fine and the only way to find out about her was to make a conversation with her.
She answered to his question but it was not what he had expected from her. “I don’t think I have anything to tell you,” answered the girl, irking him a little for a reason he did not know yet.
“What are you doing here?” His voice was cold again. Adrian knew he was supposed to be good to her but somehow the girl succeded in testing his patience and he lost it.
Amelia spoke to him something when Adrian received a call from one of his employee who had called him to inform that it was Roman who was behind Jonathan’s bankruptcy.
Adrian was more pissed to see that Roman was helping him again but a part of him asked himself if it was related to Amelia. He recollected the time when Roman enquired about Amelia. He did not understand why was the man curious about his date when Roman was the one to cancel the marriage. Roman might have helped him but still Adrian had no idea what Roman was planning this time but if the man had any intention to use Amelia against him then Adrian was ready to be his opponent.
After helping Amelia with her wound, he went to meet Roman before heading to his company. He didn’t inform Roman about his visit. If it was someone else, Adrian would’ve made a call but it was Roman who wouldn’t answer to his questions on a phone call. It was better to speak with the man in person. Since he went without any prior notice, he had to wait for Roman in the living room.
The old man didn’t want Adrian to marry his daughter then why did he help him. Was it some kind of a move to gain his trust, Adrian asked himself.
He looked around to see the servants doing their works and his eyes then caught a photo frame that was hung on the wall. It was a picture of a young woman and a little girl, the woman wore a pendant which looked very familiar and so was the young girl.
“My wife and my daughter,” it was Roman who answered Adrian’s conclusion. Adrian had to take a deep breathe to process his mind. Many questions aroused on his mind.
All he knew was, Amelia ran away from her home because of her father. He did not understand of all the places why was she in Kinsale. Did she knew about him? Why did she have to pretend that she did not know him when she knew him.
“I have my own reasons for whatever I did. Do I need to give you an explanation, Mr. Schneider?” Roman spoke.
“There is no need for you to explain anything, Mr. Earnshaw,” Adrian’s reply was curt. Amelia was his daughter and it was obvious that he wanted to protect his daughter. Roman had always kept Amelia from the world he lives and her name with Adrian would only bring the girl in the spot light and the old man didn’t want that to happen.
“As you say,” was all the man replied with a nod.
“I came to talk to you about it but I now know what I needed to know. I should be leaving now,” Adrian knew that he wouldn’t get the answers to his questions from Roman. It was Amelia who should explain him because the person whom Adrian cared now was Amelia’s intentions and not Roman.
He recollected all the events that had happened between him and Amelia since the day they came across each other. He was sure of one thing that Amelia had no clue about him, may be she was not aware of the marriage too. But what he didn’t know was why would she run away from her father.
Though he had many questions on his mind, he couldn’t stop himself from seeing her at the airport. He asked her again if she wanted to tell him something, this time it was about the things she has been hiding from him but the girl simply replied with another answer instead of giving him a reply he wanted to listen and it irked him a little more but with the feelings for her that grew deeper within him, he did not know how to react for the first time in his life. He pushed away all his doubts and decided to listen to what his heart wanted for once.
Adrian was not sure what Amelia thinks about him when he came to see her at the airport. He needed an answer for he has decided to accept his feelings way before he came to know about her.
Words which his grandmother had told him once, replayed on the back of his mind.
‘When you find her, never let her go no matter what happens!’
He still didn’t belive in destiny but with Amelia, he chose to be a fool in love and take a decision from his heart. The kiss on her forehead was the promise he made to himself that no matter what, he would never let go of her. He didn’t tell her at that time but he knew he would tell her someday by proving it to her.
Adrian was brought back from his thoughts when he felt the weight on his shoulder. He titled his head and pressed his lips on her hair when he saw that Amelia was asleep. All this while, he thought he would never let her go. He didn’t care even if she hid about herself, what he cared was the feelings she had on him. It was not until a few days ago, did he come to know that the reason for her to run away was because of the marriage and he was the person she didn’t want to marry. He didn’t know if she would want him even after knowing that he was the person who wanted to marry her for his benifits.
Somehow and somewhere, he was tangled with her even before he had found her on the deserted road one night. She was an enigma to him, a puzzle he wanted to solve and when he finally solved it now, he wondered if he could fit in the puzzle he had been solving.
Well, this is the part where Adrian came to know about Amelia. There will be another update soon!
