The chapter is a bit longer than the usual one. Instead of splitting it, I decided to update it as one chapter. Hope you have a good time reading this one. I will update next chapter soon.
The sun that looked dominant in the sky, went down when the dusk came to bring the moonlight. She spent hours with her father in silence, the man had drifted into sleep after a while but Amelia stayed back with him. Amelia had to leave her father’s room reluctantly after the nurse requested her. Now that she saw her father, her heart felt relieved and she couldn’t wait to meet him tomorrow again.
When she came out of her father’s room, she saw Adrian who was standing taking support of the wall. She looked around for Skylar who was not there at that time, she wondered if her friend left since Adrian was here.
“Did Skylar leave?” asked Amelia.
“Trevor picked her up. He wanted to see you but Skylar was not feeling well so they left,” came an answer from Adrian, which made Amelia think for a second. Skylar was fine when she was having lunch with her.
“Shall we leave now?” he asked her, gaining her attention. Amelia wanted to stay at the hospital, she didn’t want to leave now, not until her father fully recovers.
“You are not allowed inside and you can see your father only tomorrow in the morning. It is better if you come with me, I don’t want you to stay here in the hospital,” Adrian added when he saw her reluctance to leave the hospital. After thinking for a second, she agreed to him without protesting.
The ride was silent because Amelia fell asleep in the car. She didn’t know for how long they have been in the car. By the time they reached, Adrian saw that she was still asleep. He got down from his car and opened the door where Amelia was seated.
He didn’t want to wake her up and at the same time he couldn’t let her sleep in the car.
He removed her seat belt and tried to lift her with his arms but Amelia woke up before he could hold her. She looked around and then looked at him to ask.
“I thought you were dropping me at… my home?” Amelia said to him after rubbing her eyes.
“I thought you would be alone there,” he answered.
“I grew up there,” she mumbled.
“Even if you did, I don’t want to leave you alone, not at the moment at least. Now come, let’s go inside.”
Before she could give him a reply, he bent a little extending his hands beneath her knee to take her in his arms. Amelia was taken aback by his actions and had a quick glance of the surroundings. It was good that no one had seen them in the darkness, that is what she thought when she found no one around.
“I can assure you that I can walk perfectly alright,” she spoke, holding her breath within her chest.
“And I can assure you that I would safely take you to your room… or mine if it is fine with you,” Amelia heaved a deep breathe. He wasn’t serious, was he?
Adrian let out a soft chuckle when he saw the way her hazel eyes looked at him in surprise, it wasn’t difficult for him to guess what was on her mind.
“Hold me if you don’t have any intention to fall down and get hurt,” she heard his deep voice. He was surely having fun to see her reactions.
Hesitantly, her hands went around his neck for a support as he walked toward the huge wooden door. She buried her face in his neck breathing him in. Her fingers itched to touch his hair. His silky, smooth skin felt wonderful beneath her fingers that touched him when she locked her hands around his neck.
“Won’t you nurse me if I fell down and hurt myself?” she asked him.
“That I would, but taking precaution is better than cure, right?” she nodded to his words and smiled.
Adrian walked inside with the girl in his arms. A maid was in the kitchen waiting for her employer. Hearing the car sound, she came out of the kitchen to ask him if he wanted to eat now, but was startled when she saw a woman in his arms. Never did she see him bring a woman to his house in all these years. It was not her place to be curious about his personal affairs but the girl looked familiar to her for some odd reason. The old maid named Mariah, made sure not to fall in their sight and went back to the kitchen to cook food for the girl too.
He took her to the room were she stayed a few weeks ago, when she came to London. Amelia smiled to herself when she thought how things had changed between them in a short time. On the last day, she spent her time in this very room thinking about Adrian and her.
“Take a shower. I will be back in a few minutes,” his voice was soft when he spoke to her. Amelia didn’t speak anything but only nodded. She looked around the room and found her luggage on the bed.
He must’ve arranged everything for her stay but it would be better if she stayed at her home instead of staying here. It was time to return home, she thought, picking up a night gown for herself before going into the bathroom.
Meanwhile, he came down to find the old maid to inform her about the food. He asked her to cook food for two people.
“The food will be ready in a few minutes, Mr. Schneider,” the old woman replied politely.
Amelia was brushing her hair when she heard a knock on the door. The door was wide open, she knew Adrian would come to her after taking a shower and just as she thought, he was at her door in his track pant and a white t-shirt. It wasn’t the first time she had seen him this way, she was still not used to it. He was too handsome with his hair falling on his forehead, when she realised she was staring at him through the mirror, she averted her gaze.
“How do you feel now. Your headache I mean,” he walked into the room with his eyes on the girl who was seated in front of the mirror.
“Better. But I am hungry,” she said, and looked at the mirror to see him standing behind her. His stare made her concious and not knowing how to react with the attention she was getting from him, she decided to avert her gaze and brush her hair quickly.
“You need to stop doing what you are doing, Adrian,” she sighed. The man was staring at her even after she had caught him. It was as if he didn’t care of being caught by her.
“What am I doing?” he asked, stepping forward to where she was seated.
“You were looking at me,” she pointed and brushed her hair putting a little pressure where her hair was in knots.
“Because I have no desire to look else where,” He took another step forward and took her long tresses in his fingers to untangle the hair that were in knots.
“And I don’t think it is wrong to admire something that catches your eyes,” Amelia swallowed down at his words.
“There are many other things you could admire,” she said.
“Like what?” Adrian took the hand brush she was holding to comb her hair. She was being a little rough while combing her hair and he couldn’t let her apply pressure on her hair. Her hair was beautiful, she needs to be gentle with it and not rough.
“Like the moon which is bright right now?!” she said, holding her breath again. It was not very often to see a man brushing a woman’s hair and Amelia felt quite lucky at the moment with the person who was combing her hair.
“I rather look at what’s looking bright in my eyes right now and don’t move while I comb your hair,” he divided her hair into three parts and slowly untangled them carefully. A light pink colour crept from her neck to her cheeks and she had to clutch her night gown to control her racing heart.
“Were you not angry when you came to know about me. I thought you would hate me for sure,” she looked at him for an answer. She hoped he wouldn’t twist his words and give a straight answer.
“I wouldn’t say I was angry. I was too shocked when I came to know about you. You had your own reasons and I only waited for you to tell me,” he answered to her question. May be it would be a perfect time to tell her everything, he thought.
Amelia turned around to face him. She didn’t know that he waited for her to open up to him She didn’t want him to think that she wanted to hide everything form him.
“I wanted to tell you, I was waiting for your return from London. I never intended to hide about me,” she admitted.
“I know,” he smiled at her. “You don’t have to be upset for whatever has happened. At least in this way, you realised that your father cares for you.”
“If only he didn’t force me to marry at that time,” she sighed. Before he could speak something, Amelia decided to speak again. “But I am glad that I didn’t have to marry a man to whom I was just a deal. I don’t even want to imagine a life with a person who only wanted to marry me as a part of the deal.”
…”He is becoming old and he only wanted to find a man for you so that he would fulfill his responsibility as a father,” he explained her….
…He never thought she hated the man he was before he met her. He couldn’t agree less with what she said. It was only a deal to him, now that he heard her side of story he realised two things. The first thing was that he had done a grave mistake by accepting the deal and the second thing was that she hates him to the core, it was clear by the anger laced in her tone….
“The food must be ready, come down soon,” he said after placing the comb on the dressing-table. He walked out of her room and didn’t even wait for her reply, the sudden change in his mood made Amelia wonder what could be the reason for the sudden change in his mood.
